Lain

Hello everyone. This was a good week. We had the opportunity to bless a nonmember baby. The parent wanted us to bless the little 8 day old baby but I wasn't sure if we could hold it, but it was a cute little half thai half american baby.

Taught the military english this week again. The Sisters here went to help too and the Privates paid a lot more attention haha.

We sold our oven that had the dead rat inside.

It rained a ton on us when we were biking and we got soaked. Never been that soaked before. So much wain lain and rain.

Brother Saree is going to the south to get married in new years. He still hasn't quit smoking and drinking and his wife isn't too supportive of it but I gave him some Extra gum I got from my birthday package so we're praying he'll stop. He didn't understand what Extra was though. I asked me why gum was called extra and I had no answer. I told him I will go research and come back with an answer. Some things I learn on my mission and questions that I've never thought of before.

We went to go find people by the St. Joseph Church the other day and we crossed the bridge that heads over to that part and we realized we were in the wrong part of town haha. It was the Muslim part of town and everyone was just staring at us. It was fun though. Didn't ever find the church though. Found a lot of Mosques.

We had stake conference and someone from Hong Kong came down and made it so the members didn't have to go to Bangkok for it by having a video conference. It was pretty dope. We still had to go down for Interviews with the Mission President. Also, Elder David F. Evans said that President Johnson was the best Mission President he's ever been around and he's been around over 100s of them . I already knew this but he was just confirming what I already knew.

This week I want to talk about  my favorite verse I read this week in Personal Study. In 3 Nephi 5:13
13 Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life.

It is way cool knowing that I have been called by a prophet to serve God and his children in Thailand. The purpose or the end goal for everyone is everlasting life with our families in heaven with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. That is the reason we have to declare his word. We are all disciples of Jesus Christ and have a responsibility to share this message of everlasting life with everyone when God gives us the opportunity. This message does change people's lives for the better and helps them progress towards eternal happiness. I know that Jesus Christ is the way and the light and when we follow him and his teachings, we will return to live with God again. I love you all and miss everyone. Have a fabulous week!

Pics: the little baby, fish with a big head, we were trying to locate the rat, some very good food, a spider in our house, and a hia (water monitor lizard).

หนูตายแล้ว

Hello. Another great week in the old capital of Thailand. Exciting news this week is that we killed the rat that was eating our shoelaces but we can't find it in the oven. We poisoned it and know its in there because it smells! Hahaha. But no more eaten shoelaces.

Taught English to the military again. They did the hokey pokey haha.

I went on a switch off with Elder Blocker in Don Muang. We were in Rangsit together. Now he's a ZL. He's a way hard worker and loves the people. I learned a lot and it was very fun.

The next day we had Mission Tour with Elder Evans from the 70's who gave a talk in the last General Conference. It was good.

We were visiting an investigator and helping him with translating an email when an Indian guy sat down next to us and we taught him and we will refer him to the missionaries in New Delhi. It was pretty cool.

10 eye doctors from America came to church and I had to translate for them at church. Yaay! I hate translating.

We met this cool 18 year old named Awb (Idk how to spell it in english) and his friend Urn. They're pretty dope. Awb wants to quit smoking and learn which religion is true, so he's golden.

This week I want to talk some verses in Alma 26 which is my favorite chapter in the Book of Mormon right now. It's in verse 14-16

14 Yea, we have reason to praise him forever, for he is the Most High God, and has loosed our brethren from the chains of hell.
15 Yea, they were encircled about with everlasting darkness and destruction; but behold, he has brought them into his everlasting light, yea, into everlasting salvation; and they are encircled about with the matchless bounty of his love; yea, and we have been instruments in his hands of doing this great and marvelous work.
16 Therefore, let us glory, yea, we will glory in the Lord; yea, we will rejoice, for our joy is full; yea, we will praise our God forever. Behold, who can glory too much in the Lord? Yea, who can say too much of his great power, and of his mercy, and of his long-suffering towards the children of men? Behold, I say unto you, I cannot say the smallest part which I feel.

There's so much to thank and praise God for since I've started my mission. So many miracles and great experiences that have happened. It's always good to reflect on all that you have and all the many blessings you have and thank and praise God for these things. Bringing God's children out of the darkness and into the light of God's love has been such a blessing and has changed me immensely. This work is true and I couldn't imagine doing anything else. It's so much fun and rewarding being a missionary. It's so awesome. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to spread the good word of God with people who are searching for the truth. I know Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of the world and through him all things are possible. I love you all and miss everyone!

The computer isn't working so no pictures this week. Here is some old pictures of old Temples

From Prison to Branch Mission Leader (A Brother Go Story)

สวัสดีครับสมาชิกทุกท่าน.
This week has been another great week in the life of Elder Decker. Elder Decker's birthday was good. We had a Halloween party and they gave me a lot of cake. I'm not a big fan of cake but it's cake. Wish they had pumpkin pie here. They have pumpkin curry, pumpkin pumpkin, and no pie. Pretty much pumpkin everything else. But Sister Larson made me a bomb pie. So it's all good in the City of Gold.

We had 10 potential investigators this week and they all canceled their appointments and didn't answer their phones. So even though that happened yesterday we found a cool family at Miracle Park. They were just visiting Ayutthaya and were chilling at the park. We taught them about Jesus Christ and it turns out his wife passed away 5 years ago. Way sad but the Plan of Salvation is definitely the next lesson.

I had a switch off with Elder Greenwood this week who is a greenie from Lopburi. It was good. He's way good already at the language and has a great attitude about the work. Way fun. Found the Jehovah Witness Church. They were out in full force the other day.

One of Brother A's teachers is christian and started telling him about how our church wasn't true and he shouldn't learn about it. He came to us with questions and I told him that right now you're learning the truth and Satan will try to tempt him and than he said he doesn't like his teacher anyways so it's all good. The problem is he lives in the same neighborhood as one of our other investigators who we can't teach anymore because the neighbor said his son won't allow him to go to church. And that neighbor happens to be brother A's Brother in Law who saw us as we left the church after the lesson. He asked what he was doing. Families are causing us some problems right now haha.

Brother Mong is so cool. He believes in the Book of Mormon and Jesus but he just has some problem with the commandments which is holding him back.

Last Friday was Loy Krathong where you make like a floating thing out of flowers and plants and put it into the river to be cleansed of your sins. I put one with Jesus on it into the river. It'll make its way to a new investigator.

Last Sunday, Brother Go who we have been visiting in jail the past couple months who just got released from prison got called to be the Branch Mission Leader because our old one goes to the Seventh Day Adventist church. He started from the bottom and now he's here. It was pretty cool. He wanted us to help clean up his friends apartment because she's on drugs and is crazy and would not let us clean it up. But he's giving us some referrals. He's my favorite.

This week I was reading in Helaman in chapter 5 verse 12 which we all know but it's one of my favorites. It says:

12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.

It's such a good scripture. If we have faith in Jesus Christ, who is our Savior and Redeemer, we cannot fall. We won't fall into the temptations that Satan is constantly throwing at Christ's followers. We're the ones stopping him from his work. He focuses most his efforts on us and wants us to fall because the Disciples of Jesus Christ are the ones that aren't under his influence. Building our foundation on a rock which is our Savior will help us through even the worst of temptations and times. We just need to do the basic, go to church, read the scriptures, and pray and these simple things will build our foundation that will stop the Devil in his work and we won't be brought down into a gulf of misery and endless wo. We will stay in the light and feel the love that Jesus and Heavenly Father has for us when we hold true to our faith and our standards. It is only in following the Gospel of Jesus Christ that we have true happiness.

I love you all and miss you all a lot! Have a great week.
